MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the computer and electronic technology department is to provide our students with lifelong learning skills in the electronic, computer, telecommunication, and information era. To achieve this goal we are committed to teaching the fundamental knowledge and skills sets that will develop the necessary competencies for them to remain competitive in seeking additional education via transfer, or to pursue a career. In addition to teaching these foundational skills that these technologies are built upon, we are committed to providing our graduates with the necessary knowledge and opportunity to pass the standard certification tests recognized by the technical business community.

Erno Lutz

(Joined the adjunct staff in 1999) Digital Systems/ Computer/Electronics Instructor, BS Electrical Engineering, MS Systems Engineering, West Coast University, Los Angeles, CA.

Erno Lutz graduated from West Coast University with a Bachelors in Electronics and a Masters in Systems Engineering. He has worked at JPL, Burroughs Corporation, North American Rockwell Advanced Weapons Division, and a number of smaller companies throughout Southern and Northern California. As Chief Engineer for a San Diego company for the last ten years, he now spends his time telecommuting from his Redding home office designing new products for security and medical applications. He holds several patents in digital and linear circuits used in commercial and military applications. Erno teaches electronic fundamentals in both analog and digital electronics as well as systems classes in both disciplines. 

 

Frank Ogden

(Joined the adjunct staff 1994)Electronics/Telecommunication Instructor, BS Engineering Physics, University of Oklahoma.

    Frank is now retired, but has worked for Northrop Electronics, Packard-Bell Space and Systems, and Teledyne Electronics in the Los Angeles area, and E-Systems in Texas. Frank worked in the avionics, navigation and guidance, test, instrumentation, communications, digital, and computer systems disciplines at these companies.  Experience was gained with many significant programs, the first being the world's first, and only, operational intercontinental cruise missile, the Snark.  Frank did original system and hardware design for the reply evaluator contained within the classified Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogator that is used on U. S.  and allied military aircraft, and the Stinger missile system.  Also included were algorithm and test and simulation equipment development.  Frank teaches fundamental analog and digital electronics as well as telecommunications.

 

Joesph Polen

(Joined the full-time staff 1980) Physical Science/ Physics Professor; B.S., California State Polytechnic University; M.A. California State University, Chico. 

Professor Joe Polen teaches astronomy, physics, and electronics. He is very active in the radio astronomy field and is now in the process of constructing his own radio interferometer observatory in his large backyard. He has been interested in radio astronomy since high school when he first visited Hat Creek Observatory near Burney, CA.  After that 1960's visit, he has continued his association with the the Hat Creek staff every year. Joe writes a monthly star chart column for the Redding newspaper The Record Searchlight in addition to his teaching assignments. Joe teaches  ENGR 17 Circuits and Devices, ELEC 30 AC/DC  Circuits, ELEC 32 Digital Computer Electronics in addition to his physics and astronomy classes. 

Edward Ray

(Joined the adjunct staff 1995) Electronics/Computer Instructor, AA Computer Science, Santa Barbara City College, BS Business Administration in Computer Science, University of La Verne, 

Since 1995, Ed is the owner of Software World here in Redding, CA. His store specializes in all aspects of building, installing, and repair of personal computers. Before owning his own business, Ed worked at Bendix Corp., Career Development Institute, and Unisys Corp. all in the Los Angeles, CA area. Ed's corporate experience includes instructing students in the operation and repair of various electronic equipment and computers as well as the use of many software office application programs. At Unisys Corporation, Ed attained the position of Section Manager for product support. Ed teaches both analog, digital, and  computer classes.

Kenneth Say

(Joined the adjunct staff 1995, and full-time staff 2000) Telecommunications/Electronics/Computer Instructor, A.S. Idaho State College; B.S.  Utah State University.

Ken is a retired Electronic Engineer who has worked for Thiokol Chemical, Atlantic Research, Celesco, Endevco, Brunswick Defense Division, Cartwright Engineering, Baxter Healthcare, and Beckman Diagnostics. At the beginning of his engineering career at Thiokol near Brigham City, Utah; Ken witnessed the test firing of the Space Shuttle million pound thrust solid booster rocket motor. In the early part of his career, he moved to Orange County in Southern California where he worked in the aero-space and military electronics field. During that time he worked in classified instrumentation, telemetry, radar, and tracking systems. He later worked in the medical electronics field where he designed and developed oxygen saturation monitors, and protein analyzers. Ken teaches both analog, digital, and telecommunications.
