The Math Center can only function with the
cooperation of the students who require our services. This page will give
you an idea of what is expected of you once you walk in the door.
First of all, you should know the
rules. The following are those rules for which there is no discussion:
-
No Pornography
-
No Chat Rooms (This does include the
messengers.)
-
No Games
-
No Adding Equipment to the Computers
-
No Food or Drinks
-
Leave Computer Settings the Way You Find Them
If you are caught breaking one
of these rules, you will be asked to stop what you are doing or (in the case of
the food or drink) asked to put something away or move it to the designated
place by the door. More serious or persistent infractions will be dealt
with by asking you to leave.
There are few non-academic
activities allowed on the computers. The exceptions include a few of the
harmless activities like e-mail or checking the stock market.
Second, the first thing you
should do when you walk through the door is log in. This is done by first
getting yourself a log-in number. You then log in by either using this
number or your social security number. Logging in is very important
because it provides funding for the Math Learning Center. The
administration looks at the number of hours people are logged in and allocates
funding to the Center in accordance with what they see.
Third, once you log in, you just
find a place to sit, either at a computer or a table. If at any time you
need help with a problem, just raise your hand. The first available tutor
will come to help.
Tutors are relatively easy to
spot. They are the ones with green name tags. Their names are also listed
on a board on the east wall. If you need a tutor, raising your hand will get someone's
attention. If they cannot be of help, they can usually find someone who
can be.
