Pamela Hanford, Instructor

Ok, I'm signed up for English 1A on the Internet, now what do I do?

1.  Since this is a late-starting class, you do not need to contact me until the second week of March, unless you have questions.  Then, contact your instructor by email, to verify your presence in the course.  Please use the subject line of "New Online Student" in your email.  The contact information is here.

Whenever you write to your instructor via email, please use an appropriate subject line such as "Online Student Question," so she will give your mail first priority (and not mistake your letter for an assignment to be graded later).

2.  Purchase your books at the Shasta College Bookstore.  If you are from out of the area and cannot go to the bookstore, speak to your Distance Education office.  They will make arrangements to have the books sent to you.

3.  Get your library card from the Learning Resources Center.

If you are from out of the area and cannot go to the library, you may speak to your Distance Education office, or call Librarian Collean Crane at 225-4615 or 225-4977.  You may also email Collean at ccrane@shastacollege.edu.

4.  Take the WebCT Tour (you may find this beneficial to learn how online course tools are used, but we will be switching to a new platform in spring 08) to become familiar with the tools you'll be using.  In particular, we use the discussion forums and the evaluation tools.  However, you're always welcome to explore the chapter objectives, make use of the calendar for your own reminders, and utilize anything else within the WebCT environment which might be helpful to you in this course.

5.  Review Lesson One as soon as the link is emailed to you.  Complete the lesson at your convenience, but submit it by the due date.  Remember to always use the correct subject line when sending your assignments.
